Sweden- 3/03

On my way back down from the far north, I stopped for two quick
days in Stockholm, before I headed back to my home in Århus.

What an incredible place- the capital is made up of 14 interconnected islands,
and the small portion I saw made me want to come back as soon as I could...

Sunrise near Malmö, one of the southernmost cities in Sweden... I took this photo as I was traveling on a night train from Stockholm to Copenhagen.
The royal palace in Stockholm, home to King Carl Gustav, if I remember correctly. Like virtually all royalty in Europe, his role is almost totally symbolic.
A narrow street in Stockholm's gamla stan, or Old City.
I just happened to be walking by over a bridge, and caught what I think is my favorite picture of all the ones I've taken. I don't know the name of the tower, but I love the way it reflects on the water.
This is a larger view of Stockholm, which is actually made up of 14 separate islands, all connected by a series of bridges. Of all the cities I've seen, it's surely one of the most beautiful.
Another view of Stockholm.
I took the Viking Line ferry from Turku, Finland to Stockholm, about a 12-hour trip. As we were approaching Stockholm the sun was beginning to set, and I went out onto the freezing cold deck to capture this.
