Photo Gallery #61- Tourist Paris, Part I

I spent five days in Paris, seeing friends, walking around, and simply enjoying
being on vacation. I spent plenty of time just wandering aimlessly, but also
wanted to check out some of the important museums, monuments, and more.

The Sacré Coeur, the famous white basilica at the highest point in Paris.

On the way up the long pathway...
Looking down at the Montmarte district.

Unfortunately, cameras were prohibited on the inside of the church, but the outside is pretty photogenic of its own accord.

The Hôtel des Invalides, headquarters for the French military today, an Army hospital in years past, and Napoleon's final resting place.
In the courtyard of les Invalides.
Inside the rotunda of the gold-domed church.
On the lowest level, directly below the painting above is Napoleon's tomb, a massive seven-layer sarcophogus made of lead, mahogany, and more. Apologies for the low light.
Notre Dame cathedral, on the Ile de Cîte, the oldest inhabited section of Paris.
I felt like I couldn't be a tourist in Paris without doing the most touristy thing of all, seeing the Eiffel Tower. I'd been in 2002, but it was a foggy day, meaning that I saw almost nothing. I didn't have the same problem this time, although the cold was positively bone-chilling.
Looking up to the first and second levels of the tower. The first level has a restaurant, post office, and in the winter, an ice-skating rink.

One of the four giant legs, with the elevators built in.

€10.40 later, it was time to head up.
Looking down at the Champs de Mars from the first level.
