Photo Gallery #51- Ertchey's Birthday, Part I

The birthday boy...

The dinner had been in the works for a few days, but it wasn't til about one hour before that I discovered where it was going to be- my house. Typical.
Livana, who eventually got kicked out of the nice (sort of) homemade plywood chair for Ertchey.

No Chadian ceremony or event is complete without speeches or prayers, and Ertchey provided us with both.

Dinner- stewed beef filet in a tomato sauce served over white rice. Nothing spectacular, but this is a festive meal in these parts...
Getting ready to eat...
But not yet...
OK, go for it...
One thing about Chadians is that although most of them are rail-thin, they can seemingly eat their body weight at a single meal- three platters of rice and meat were polished off in less than 15 minutes.
After dinner, someone got the brilliant idea, possibly Livana, that we should try putting out matches in our mouths. As the one 'responsible adult,' I declined. I did still watch though...
Dessert.
