Photo Gallery #45-Back to Gaya, Part I
After
almost two months away, it was great to get back to Gounou-
Gaya, to see friends, get my house together, and live the
real Peace Corps life.

Arriving
back in Gaya, just in time to catch a rainbow...
|
I
got back on August 1st, the height of the rainy season,
when everything was green. |
|
| |
|
During
rainy season, almost the entire town empties during
the day- everyone is in the fields, working.
|
|
| |
Marc
was growing corn near my house- he worried that if he
planted it farther away, it'd get stolen. |
It
was great to reconnect with old friends, like Desiré,
who just passed the BAC exam, and hopes to go on to medical
school. |
|
| |
And
Hibé, his father, the director of the theological
seminary. |
We
celebrated my 25th birthday on the 22nd with rice and
chicken, prepared by Valaddi. I invited my neighbors and
a few friends, for a birthday party unlike any I've ever
had. |
|
|
I
also got a chance to visit Marco, the Haitian-German development
worker living in Gaya. |
| One
afternoon, shortly after getting back, Marc asked me to
come with him, so he could show me his fields. |
|
|
|
| Marc's
family has been farming the same plot for generations, growing
the same things every year... |
|
|
Peanuts. |
| Cotton. |
|
|
Red
Sorghum, which people here call Red Millet. |
