Photo Gallery #38-Cameroon Travels, Part I

Right after IST, eight of us went on vacation, to the Atlantic beach resort
of Kribi- by Taxi-Brousse, train, and bus, getting there was half the fun.

The first night after leaving Chad, we made it as far as Maroua, the capital of the 'Extreme-North' province of Cameroon. It looked like a beautiful city, but we had almost no time, although we did have a nice dinner at a Vietnamese restaurant in town.

The next morning we caught a Touristique Express bus from Maroua to N'gaoundéré, the northern end of the Cameroonian railroad, where we'd catch the train for Yaoundé.

Arriving at the Gare Voayageurs, the central train station in N'gaoundéré.

I think perhaps Darth Vader may have rented this place before it was converted into a train station...

Buying our tickets... The sign asks you to stay in order in line, something which doesn't compute in Central Africa.
After buying our tickets, the waiting begins.
Mai, Sung-Mun, and I were getting hungry, so we thought we'd try to find some lunch.
We found a small street-food stall across from the station, where you could get basics like chicken, rice, plantains, etc. Nothing special, but at least it was cheap.
The row of stalls opposite the station.
Later, Darren, Aaron, and I went exploring a little bit, and found the Grand Mosque of N'Gaoundéré.
Finally about 5:30 PM we were ready to board. Because we hadn't reserved sleeper cars in advance, we ended up in 1st Class, although we were actually seated in the Bar/Restaurant car, which was about as uncomfortable of a 17-hour train ride as you can imagine.
The sleeper cars we would've had if we'd reserved in advance... On the way back, we had better luck.
Somewhere between N'Gaoundéré and Yaoundé.
They might've had a more comfortable ride than we did in the restaurant wagon.
