Photo Gallery #66- Postcards from Amsterdam

In 2002, I lived in the Netherlands and had a great experience- as long as
I was in the neighborhood, figuratively speaking, I thought I'd take the
opportunity to go back during this vacation to cruise around, see friends,
and more- here are a few of my favorite photos from Holland's largest city.

Amsterdam is a city which has been reclaimed from the water, and still lies below sea level, giving an almost Venetian feel to the place.

There are four gigantic 'ring canals' that encircle the city, the singel, herengracht (lord's canal), keizersgracht (caesar's canal), and prinzengracht (prince's canal) leading to more than 1000 bridges.
Somewhere in the Niewmarkt district, in the eastern part of town.

The Westerkerk (West Church), just down the street from the famous Anne Frank Huis.
Late afternoon along the canal.
And the Damrak, the main street linking Central Station and Dam Square, the heart of the city.
Inside the Vondelpark, in the southwestern 'Museum Kwartier' of the city.
A perfect European winter scene.
A snowy morning in the Jordaan, in Amsterdam's west.

The canals are lined with houseboats, undoubtedly adding several thousand to the city's population.
